Heather Farms is just, again, for the Bay Area, very generous. And so, strangely, any day, I'd way rather go to Heather Farms than Golden Gate Park, or anywhere in San Francisco. San Francisco, in its eternal urge to make being poor as punitive as possible, really has almost not true public life left. Contra Costa County, although physically-larger and more populated than San Francisco County, takes care of its poor better. There are ample places to sit and it doesn't have all the restrictive paranoia of San Francisco parks. But there are seasons gardens there, and often wonderful flowers in bloom. The best thing about this place is that the combination of open-water and wetland-type grasses is how it attracts birds, (my favorite now-locals being Canadian geese). The area has waterways on one side and a large lake in the middle, and lots of trees and walkways and parking. It's a very generous spread, considering land values in the area.
